HISTORY
Long ago, the Avians had the incredible ability to soar high in the sky on their home of Avos without the help of technology. They were wild, and free, and embraced the heavens completely and fully. However, something happened...something unknown even to the high priests of Kluex. It is thought that their ability to fly was taken from as punishment for entering the mortal world, that only by devoting their life to spiritual absolution that they will regain their wings in the afterlife.
Whether or not this is true, it does not matter...the majority of Avians believe it wholeheartedly, and they will do anything to achieve the absolution they desire. As a result of their primitive culture The Avians were technologically stagnant, unwilling to let go of their barbarous ways in the name of progress. Then an unusual occurance happened- a rarity in the cosmos. They were uplifted, but they did not self-destruct. An advanced alien race, unknown to anyone- even their beneficiaries took pity upon the Avians, giving them the knowledge of space travel and advanced them.
The Avians used this technology to flourish and grow, and expand unlike any other empire in the cosmos. While they maintain their primitive and...barbarous values the Avians have also built the largest civilization the galaxy has ever seen, their colonies having stretched from arm-to-arm, a feat that even the mighty Apex cannot claim to.
BIOLOGY AND CHARACTERISTICS
The Avians live up to their name in that they resemble bipedal birds in appearance, with varying feather patterns and colors, appearance wise it is very difficult to mistake Avians for one-another. They are not known for their physical strength or fortitude however, relying primarily and speed and skill in conflict than brute force. Which is alright, because despite this weakness they are the greatest melee fighters in the galaxy, fierce, unrelenting and most of all, extremely clever. If one engages an Avian in a one on one duel they should be very VERY careful.
Avians in the Federation
There are those that do not believe in Kluex, there are those who believe he does not exist- or at the very least, find the idea of sentient sacrifice appaling and want nothing to do with this. These are the grounded, the outcasts in Avian society. However, where once this was just a general term for all those who rejected the idea of Kluex...the Grounded themselves started to own it. A heroic leader- Delen Tydrus, the son of a high-ranking priest of Kluex...and his greatest source of shame. Delen was not only grounded, but he would be the leader of this movement.
Delen faced many attempts at assassination and murder by his numerous enemies, but this did not dissuade him. He instead continued to gather the downtrodden, and swelled the ranks of The Grounded until they were an actual threat to the Stargazers' rule. So the Stargazers declared war upon The Grounded, beginning a long and bloody civil war. However, Delen had help, help from the most unlikely of places- a faction of Apex, known as The Conduit.
The Conduit supplied The Grounded with advanced weapons and technology- giving them the edge they needed to hang on in the war. Unfortunately- having technology and being able to use it effectively are two completely different things. The Grounded were still getting destroyed, so The Conduit extended and offer to The Grounded. Come to a world known as Amerish, you will be protected...in exchange all we ask is your continued alliance.
There was only once choice, the Avians accepted. They stole ships from the Stargazers and flew their Flotilla to the world known as Amerish- Delen unfortunately having sacrificed his life to ensure that the rest of his brethren could escape.
