HISTORY
The Avali are a scarred and worn race, yet also one of the most optimistic and adventurous peoples in the galaxy. They come from a world known as Avalon, where they developed the most sophisticated and impressive social systems the galaxy has ever seen. Unfortunately, an unknown alien race- who apperantly resembled human beings- settled on their homeworld and attempted to act as wrathful gods to the young Avali. Fortunately, the Avali won the conflict against them, decimating the invaders and forcing them to flee. However not without a cost. The technology that was left behind by these creatures DID uplift the Avali far past what they would have been able to achieve on their own. Stories where primitive cultures miraculously gain the power of the stars never end well, as the Avali demonstrated once again...as they nearly destroyed themselves with their newfound power.
However even as they continued to fight amongst themselves, they survived their own self destruction long enough to end the destructive conflict that they waged against themselves for so long- finally unifying themselves under a single one-world government. They developed starships to explore the stars, seeking adventure and excitement and to wander new grounds.
BIOLOGY AND CHARACTERISTICS
The Avali are the descendants of roaming ambush predators, and are swift and agile as a result, with heightened senses built for tracking and awareness of their surroundings at all times. This is hardly their most dangerous natural weapon however, that would be their ability to form packs. Packs are a group of four to six Avali, all raised together and who work together their entire lives. These packs are more than just mere family groups or friends however, they are all a part of a single person. An Avali pack is capable of rapid communication unlike anything other species could ever hope to achieve through several lifetimes, forming strategies and team synergy on a level unmatched by any other sentient race.
A pack of Avali might sound like a chaotic garbling of several creatures talking all at the same time, however this method of communication allows them to thoroughly discus complex ideas and reach concensus in the time it takes a single conversationalist to express his thoughts to anyone else. Unfortunately this bond has its' fault- specifically when it's severed. Avali become disfunctional, unstable, even go insane when isolated from their pack, and losing a single member is paramount to losing an arm for anyone else.
Avali in the Federation
Where the Federation had to earn the loyalty of most other races the Avali just sort of...showed up one day. A single Tribe, having seperated from the rest of Avali society they arrived on a large freighter one day. There isn't much to this story honestly, the Tribe was full of like-minded packs seeking adventure and excitement, and The Federation seemed to be a source of infinite adventure. The other races happily accepted their help, and The Avali have remained a strong addition to the Federation ever since.
