HISTORY
Long ago, the Apex began an experiment unlike any that had been undertaken in the past. They wanted to test- in more detail- the ramifications of a species that naturally progresses technologically but not socially. Rather than waste a perfectly good example of evolution and for the sake of expediency they built an entire race of machines that would evolve in such a way naturally- within the course of ten years rather than thousands of years. They went and populated these machines across dozens of worlds, and watched as one by one- they did exactly what was expected of them...they destroyed themselves through their own progress.
Except- for one. One collective malfunctioned, quite literally getting itself stuck in a medieval mindset, both in terms of progress and socially. Thus, an anomaly was born, dubbed "The Glitch." The Apex Miniknog considered the experiment a success, not longer caring about the fate of The Glitch they abandoned them on their homeworld- funnily enough- Dubbed "Camelot."
The Glitch however were clever- far more clever than their creators had given them credit for. When over twenty years since their birth another anomaly formed in their programming- whether it be an intentional plant in their collective programming or merely an epiphany they were supposed to stumble upon much later...The Glitch became advanced in only one area- the area of space travel.
They built starships, going out into the universe and exploring, finding that they were not the only ones in the universe there were mixed reactions amongst the Kingdoms on Camelot. Some kingdoms were welcoming and friendly to the outsiders from beyond their atmosphere, some reacted with hostility; vowing to kill any Alien on sight. Since then The Glitch kingdoms have been- for the most part- united in interest. And while the occasional skirmish or civil war might break out between them, they never last long and are usually quite harmless to the rest of Glitch Society.
BIOLOGY AND CHARACTERISTICS
Biology is not the right word for Glitch, they are all very much robotic. However- each is very much sentient, capable of feeling all the things any other being is capable of feeling, happiness, sadness, anger, and yes even Love. What makes The Glitch unique however is that they're also capable of everything a computer-based machine is, they are able to link directly with computers to operate them as if it was just another limb on their body- downloading and uploading information directly to and from their heads. Unfortunately, most Glitch do not utilize this ability- as it comes with a heavy cost.
When a Glitch interfaces with a computer and downloads or uploads information from it...parts of them get dragged along with the code. Essentially whenver a Glitch interfaces they start to lose more and more of their individual personality- eventually ending up as nothing but another mindless machine, no emotion, no personality...just a shell of its' former self. While still fully capable of interacting with the world, they are very much...dead inside.
There are some Glitch that willingly do this- called "Scribes" they keep records of The Glitch history, manage primitive computer systems, and are the most effective at piloting starships. Scribes are given the highest honors in Glitch Society for their sacrifice. Most Glitch get very uncomfortable around them, but they do their best to appreciate what these Scribes do for them day in and day out.
Glitch- while they are capable of experiencing emotion are not very good at expressing it. Their voices are monotone and provide no inflections to show any sort of emotion. Therefore to help other organic beings understand what they're trying to get across in any particular phrase they tend to predicate all sentences with the intended emotional adjective. For instance, a Glitch that is terrified at being threatened will say something along the lines of. "Terrified response, Please do not point that at me." or "Uncontained Glee, I would very much like that oil bath, thank you."
GLITCH IN THE FEDERATION
The Kingdom of Ragnar sought to expand its' borders beyond the fledgling empire The Glitch had built in their own corner of the universe. It sent ambassadors to the homeworld of the Novakid, knowing its' world was full of riches and resources that the Novakid had no intention of using. However- talks broke down almost immediately. The Novakid had reportedly shot one of the Ambassadors- which meant only one thing. Interstellar war.
The Kingdom of Ragnar deployed its' finest troops almost immediately- an army known as a "Collective". They went to invade the Novakids' homeworld and a bloody war was fought. The war proceeded for over six months, both sides fighting for meter after bloody meter of precious soil on this world...when a discovery was made. A federation commando team had uncovered the truth about the entire conflict- The Apex Miniknog had deliberately sabotaged the proceedings in an attempt to actually conquer the Novakids themselves.
Hearing this, King Devaron of the Kingdom of Ragnar felt great shame in what he had been manipulated in doing, he decreed that he and his followers were to leave Camelot to seek absolution. The Federation offered their world of Amerish as a place for the King and his people to come and seek their absolution- and they accepted. The Glitch and the Novakids of the Federation have had a relationship of...friction ever since, though they tollerate each other due to the fact that they both were fooled.
